Update: the locksmith was quite nice, but after over an hour of working, was unable to remove the key fragment. If you were wondering, it’s an old Kia key. I the broken part was found under the seat.
My options now? Another $800+ for an entire new ignition assembly and labor, or $350ish assuming I can find a used, manual one. Either way, multiple days without a car, which makes checking junkyards a no-go. Uber to work is going to start adding up very quickly.
Just once I’d like to be victim to an assault, instead of nighttime thievery. Something where I can take out some anger, because I am so damn tired of dealing with this. At this point there’s nothing I want more than to just get rid of this damn car.
After a not pleasant day at work I came home to a hot water tank leaking like crazy. I’m almost crying tears of relief that 20 year old me was paranoid enough to install said water heater inside of a leak-proof 3' high enclosure in case something like this ever happened. No water damage or angry downstairs neighbor, but I do need to replace my tank.
This is shaping up to be a very expensive November.
Suffice to say I’m taking tomorrow off to try catching up on problems.
Visual representation
On the plus side the hawks are looking moderately alive tonight. Down 3 at halftime against the 49ers isn’t a bad place to be.

Glad you can see the silver lining. Hang in there.

The douchecanoe who attempted to steal your car failed and planning ahead paid off. Sounds pretty solid to me.

It could be much worse. At least you didn’t leave your Keyes in your car.

Better than it could have been in all regards. Still not good. I want some good. Or even just okay .

Well, it’s not much in the grand scheme of things, but I think you’re a good person.

Ooof. I feel for him.

As someone who likes candy corn and doesn't like Mexican food, I don't here that very often. Thank you

Hey at least it’s not snowing there.
I think.

But I WANT the snow

I’m right here with you. Just finished up an exam, my kids expander just took a shit, my pup broke its toe, and I need to write up a week’s worth of lessons because I’m headed to Yosemite for a wedding two days before heading to Europe for a week. Whiskey seems to help with the anxiety.
As a homeowner, making friends with a plumber is a wise investment.

I also don’t like Mexican food.
Everyone here likes Mexican food and my in-laws ONLY want to eat out at Mexican joints.

Having spent quite a bit of time in Washington, I can assure you it does not contain any Mexican food.

It’s okay, as a Washingtonian, you’ve probably never had actual Mexican food. And as a Seattleite, it it’s expected that you enjoy consuming wax.

Is insurance an option? If someone can cut through a cloth top or smash through a window, why wouldn't a jammed up ignition be covered?

Game ended with a freebie kick for hawks in overtime. How’s that for a nightcap to a fucked day?
P.S. what car was it that got the fucked ignition? Model year too. I'll see about looking up parts for you.

So do I.

About $300.

Any reason you can’t just use a very small drill bit and drill a hole into the key, screw a tap into it and yank it out?
![]() 11/12/2019 at 01:41 |
|
Yeah, the broken off key bit is twisted/off-center in such a way that I can't even see it in the ignition. Looks like it's really jammed the tumblers up

Ugh, that sucks. Hang in there.

That sucks. But I think you’re doing the right thing, taking today off to get some things sorted out. I did the same thing this weekend (took Friday off plus had yesterday as a holiday), I was super stressed between work, school, house projects, etc. and taking some time to get caught up (and relax a bit) was immensely helpful and reduced my stress about 10,0 00%

Ugh, that sucks. Sorry to hear it.

M aybe $35 0 all in . 3 hours still sounds long to replace it but might be in the 2-2.5 hou r range but parts are maybe $60.
If you do attempt it. The sheer bolts can be challenging but if you get an air hammer and chisel it at an angle, you can get it to move (watch any yt video on how to first)

$60? Absolute cheapest option I've found is $350 so far
![]() 11/12/2019 at 10:32 |

Check the ebay link 60 bucks, and he has a ton of them

There’s a tiny bit here and there, but not much. The little there is, is mediocre, at best.

Oh. Well there’s about 7 inches on the ground here, you’re welcome to come get it.
